July 21: Weekly Reading- Jesus Heals Many; The Amazed & Insight Post by Kim Feld

Weekly Reading: Matthew 15:29-31Mark 7:31-37

Monday Reflection

Jesus’ Healing Power is for All: As Jesus healed the crowds who came to Him; those who were lame, blind, crippled, mute, and others; He demonstrated that His healing power is available to everyone, regardless of their condition. Jesus’ compassion for all who were suffering reminds us that no one is beyond His reach.

Monday Verse

Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. Psalm 103:2-3 (NLT)

Monday Questions

Do I believe that Jesus’ healing power is available to me? How can I approach Him with my needs, trusting in His compassion?

Monday Insight Post
by Kim Feld

This week’s reading tells us that the crowds were amazed at Jesus’ ability to heal. I can only imagine what it must have been like for people who had suffered with illness and infirmity to be miraculously set free. The Greek word that is used for amazed means to be astonished, surprised, and filled with wonder. This is probably one of those instances where words fail to express the fullness of what the people were experiencing.

I have been fixated on the thought lately that, as rough as things may seem in the world, we have never experienced a world where God was completely absent. Anything good, beautiful, and true has God’s fingerprints all over it. I think that’s one reason that Paul gave us this command:

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8 (NLT)

We have numerous negative things that could capture our attention today. We are surrounded by so much pain and suffering. God sure doesn’t want us to turn a blind eye to all that, but I believe He does want us to exercise faith in the midst of it and look for the good that He is still providing.

I have taken a broader approach to these passages and asked myself, “Am I amazed when God answers my prayers?” “Am I amazed when something unexpectedly good comes my way?” “Am I amazed that God loves me regardless of all the unlovable things I have done?”

I want to live a life of amazement. If I intentionally look for it, I can see God working around me every single day. But I often choose not to see it because I’m fixated on things that are often outside of my control anyway. Do I come to God expectantly every day and ask Him to show me His glory today?

Please join me on a new quest this week. Let’s be people who are amazed at God’s goodness, grace, and mercy. Let’s be amazed at the beauty He has created around us. Let’s be amazed that He loves us. What might He do with a group of people who choose to live that way?
