July 28: Weekly Reading- Parable of the Mustard Seed; The Trusting & Insight Post by Kim Feld

Monday Reflection

Small Beginnings Lead to Great Growth: The mustard seed is the smallest of all seeds, yet it grows into a large tree. Jesus teaches us that even the smallest acts of faith can result in significant, life changing outcomes. God can use the little we have to offer and turn it into something great.

Monday Verse

Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand. Zechariah 4:10 (NLT)

Monday Questions

In what areas of my life do I need to trust that small steps of faith can lead to great growth? How can I offer my small efforts to God and trust Him for the results?

Monday Insight Post

In the passages we are reading this week, Jesus compares the Kingdom of God to a tiny mustard seed. It’s remarkable to think that a shrub can emerge from something so small, but that’s the beauty of Jesus’ analogy. Christianity, like that mustard seed, had a humble start but has since flourished and spread across the globe.

The idea of something small growing into something big is encouraging to me. Slow and steady progress, although sometimes challenging to sustain, can yield excellent results if it continues. This is applicable in so many areas of our lives, including our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Even small faith can grow over time through persistent contact with Jesus, achieved through prayer and Bible study.

I often find myself frustrated when whatever I am working on or have committed to doesn’t happen as quickly as I think it ought to. I struggle with the persistence it takes to complete a goal. I want to wave a magic wand, avoiding the discomfort and struggle. But it’s in the pain and struggle that I grow.

Much of the slow work from seed to plant happens out of sight, in the soil. It’s only when the green leaves burst through the surface of the ground that we see life happening. That’s similar to how God grows and changes us – He works on our hearts before any outward change is apparent.

Is there a small beginning that God wants to partner with you on today? Is He inviting you into a change that will take time and effort, but will yield great results? God wants our lives to reflect His glory so that others see Jesus in the way we change and grow.
