Monday Reflection

Jesus Knows Our Weaknesses: Jesus predicts Peter’s denial, showing His understanding of human frailty. Despite Peter’s strong declarations of loyalty, Jesus knew Peter would stumble, reminding us that Jesus sees our weaknesses and loves us still.

Monday Verse

This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do,yet he did not sin. Hebrews 4:15 (NLT)

Monday Questions

How can I find comfort in knowing that Jesus understands my weaknesses and still loves me unconditionally? In what ways can I embrace His grace and compassion, trusting that He accepts me despite my shortcomings?

Monday Insight Post
by Kim Feld

The story of Jesus predicting Peter’s denial is heart-wrenching. Peter couldn’t imagine it happening, but Jesus knew that it would. I’m so glad that this story is included in three of the biographies of Jesus. It may seem odd, but I find hope in this story. Just as Jesus knew Peter, He knows me too.

Even though Jesus knew that Peter would deny that he even knew Him three separate times, He also knew that He would restore Peter. Jesus knew the role Peter would play in the early church, despite the fear and self-protection these acts revealed. As I think about Peter’s story, I think of the many times I could have been vocal about my faith but chose silence instead.

If I’m honest, fear and self-protection are at play when I choose silence. Although I have never blatantly denied knowing Jesus, I have missed opportunities to share my faith. Those times have brought conviction by the Holy Spirit, and Jesus has graciously forgiven me just as He did Peter, offering hope and encouragement in His forgiveness and restoration.

Distortions of Christianity, such as hypocrisy, judgmental attitudes, and self-righteousness, are abundant in our world. These distortions often misrepresent who Jesus truly is. However, we can show the world the real Jesus by the words we speak, the way we act, and the love we show. We just wrapped up our church-wide study last week that underscored the upside-down kingdom that Jesus has called us to. It bears very little resemblance to the world in which we live and, in many ways, operates exactly opposite to how the world would tell us to behave.

Jesus knows me, loves me, and accepts me just as I am, but He doesn’t want me to stay that way. Just as family members resemble one another, Jesus wants me to look, act, and speak as He does. That’s a tall order, but something that He invites me to every single day.

I don’t know why Jesus chose me and continues to forgive and work in me. He has saved me from my sins and continues to save me from my own self-destruction. I don’t know where I would be without Jesus. I am so grateful that even though He knows me better than anyone, He still loves me.

39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:39 (NLT)
