Courageous Faith: Stepping out in faith even when the future is unclear shows our trust in God.

Monday Verse

See, God has come to save me. I will trust in him and not be afraid. The Lord God is my strength and my song; he has given me victory. Isaiah 12:2 (NLT)

Monday Questions

Where is God calling me to show courageous faith in the face of uncertainty? How can I trust in God’s strength and victory, even when the future feels unclear?

Monday Insight Post
by Kim Feld

As I read the account of Jesus sending out the 72 to all the places He planned to visit, I wonder what they were thinking and feeling as they went. This is sobering:

“Now go, and remember that I am sending you out as lambs among wolves.” Luke 10:3 (NLT)

Anxiety often bubbles up in me when I face a future that feels unclear, and let’s be honest, all the planning in the world does not always compensate for what the future may hold.

James put this clearly:
How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. James 4:14 (NLT)

So, how can we trust in God even when our future feels unclear? One of the things I’m working on is reminding myself that nothing that comes my way is a surprise to God. God is all-knowing – past, present, and future. Nothing ever shocks or surprises Him. Saddens Him? Yes. But shock or surprise, no.

Anxiety is generally future-focused, so when I’m feeling anxious about what may or may not come my way, I find this journaling strategy to be helpful. I make a list of the top three things that I currently feel anxious about. Next, beside each one, I write, “God, You are not surprised by this and You are with me.” After I have done this with all three, I go back and read it aloud. Then, I pray and ask God to give me the strength and perspective to trust Him.

I enjoy journaling, so being able to revisit and reflect on things I have written, recalling how God has guided me, strengthens my faith. Sometimes my memory is way too short, so I find this practice helpful. God understands our anxieties and fears and promises that we are never alone.

For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.Hebrews 13:5b (NLT)
