There is a world of difference between knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge involves knowing facts and information. Wisdom deals with the healthy application of facts and information. A simple illustration of the difference is this: the grocery store has a wide array of food and ingredients, and not all of them are particularly beneficial or good for us. This is similar to the tons of information and ideas available to us. Wisdom sorts through information, like food items in a supermarket, to gather up what is good and helpful.
Just like carefully choosing our food is important, so is choosing what we think and believe. Wisdom allows us to filter the noise from the truth and then guide us in making good life choices.
Here is a promise for those who trust God that is super comforting:
“6For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. 7He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.” Proverbs 2:6–7 (NLT)
Think about it, God is eager and ready to give us wisdom if we ask, and there is really only one requirement on our part – to ask with a willingness to follow what He says. God is not interested in us merely shopping around for opinions or ideas. He wants us to be ready to act on what He says.
“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. 6 But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. 7 Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.” James 1:5–8 (NLT)
Wisdom is available to all who humbly ask. Now that is good news!
