January 12: Weekly Focus
January – Meditation
Meditation is the practice of slowing down and focusing on God’s Word and presence. It is not about emptying the mind, but about filling it with truth, listening for God’s voice, and allowing His Word to take root deep within us. This practice helps us move from simply reading Scripture to letting it shape our hearts, minds, and actions.
Week of January 12- Week 2
Reading:
¹ But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. ² They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. 3 Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do. Psalm 1:1–3 (NLT)
Staying close to Him through Scripture gives us strength and stability no matter what comes.
Reflection Questions:
- How does this picture of a tree help you imagine the impact of meditating on God’s Word?
- What might it look like for you to meditate “day and night”?
- What fruit do you hope to see grow in your life through this practice?
- How can meditation bring stability in uncertain times?
- Where do you feel spiritually dry and in need of being “planted along the riverbank”?
Why this matters for life today:
Life can feel unstable, but God promises that those who delight in His Word will be like trees with deep roots. When we let His truth shape our minds and guide our steps, our lives become steady, nourished, and able to grow in every season.
Take it Deeper:
- Those who trust in the Lord are like trees with deep roots that never run dry.
7But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. 8They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit. Jeremiah 17:7–8 (NLT)
- Let Christ’s word dwell in you so it can shape your heart and actions.
16Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. Colossians 3:16 (NLT)
