At the Movies

Think Outside of the Box Office

Why do we love movies? Lasers and explosions? When the guy finally gets the girl? When good triumphs over evil? The truth is that we love stories, and a good movie can make us laugh, cry, or leave us hanging on the edge of our seat in suspense. Maybe there’s more truth hidden in our favorite flicks than we, and even Hollywood, realize. Join us for this three-week series, and together we’ll start thinking outside the box office.

Week 1 Message- Unbroken

Date- August 22nd & 23rd, 2015

Key Verse(s)-  Proverbs 24:10; 1 Corinthians 9:26-27; 1 Peter 5:8:14; Joseph’s story (Genesis 39-50)

Speaker- Jeff Geyer

When we’re feeling trapped or afraid, we often default to making deals with God. These kinds of prayers fueled by desperation actually display our lack of faith. We need to do a better job of remembering that God always has a plan we can trust…and it’s often far beyond what we can imagine.

Week 2 Message- McFarland USA

Date- August 29th & 30th, 2015

Key Verse(s)-  Ecclesiastes 4:9-10; Proverbs 17:22; Philippians 4:8; 1 Peter 1:13; Revelations 2:2-3

Speaker- Jeff Geyer

Sometimes it can feel like God is punishing us. Unanswered prayers, tough financial situations, rocky marriages and uncertain relationships can tempt us to give in and quit. Following Jesus takes courage, perseverance and trust.

Week 3 Message-  Big Hero 6

Date- September 5th & 6th, 2015

Key Verse(s)-  Matthew 5:38-42; Ephesians 4:25-32; James 1:19-20; Romans 12:19

Speaker- Jeff Geyer

Concepts like grief, sacrifice and revenge can be difficult for kids to grasp. However, many of us experience the desire to ‘get even’ with someone who has wronged us from an early age. Together we’ll look and see what God has to say about retaliation.
