At the Movies 2018

Finding Biblical truths in some of this year’s most popular movies.

Movies are called entertainment because they have a unique way of capturing our attention. Through compelling stories, good acting and CGI, we can be transported into a story and see life from a new vantage point. In this series, we will be looking at three recent movies that are not only entertaining, but illustrate truths that can transform our lives.

Week 1 Message- Black Panther

Date- August 18/19, 2018

Key Verse(s)-

Speaker- Rusty Coram

Black Panther follows T'Challa, who returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, his mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk. Through this exploration of danger and bitterness, we’ll learn the transformative power of justice, honor and forgiveness.

Week 2 Message- Darkest Hour

Date- August 25/26, 2018

Key Verse(s)-

Speaker- Rusty Coram

During the early days of World War II, with the fall of France imminent, Britain faces its darkest hour as the threat of invasion looms. As the seemingly unstoppable Nazi forces advance, and with the Allied army cornered on the beaches of Dunkirk, the fate of Western Europe hangs on the leadership of the newly-appointed British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. While maneuvering his political rivals, he must confront the ultimate choice: negotiate with Hitler and save the British people at a terrible cost or rally the nation and fight on against incredible odds. This is an incredible example of the power of friendship, perseverance and faith.

Week 3 Message- Wonder

Date- September 1/2, 2018

Key Verse(s)-

Speaker- Stephanie Schleyer

Wonder tells the inspiring and heartwarming story of August Pullman. Born with facial differences that, up until now, have prevented him from going to a mainstream school, Auggie becomes the most unlikely of heroes when he enters the local fifth grade, as his family, his new classmates, and the larger community all struggle to find their compassion and acceptance, Auggie's extraordinary journey will unite them all and prove you can't blend in when you were born to stand out. We’ll look at how we all deal with grief and loss differently, and how God comes along side and supports us through it.
